About the artwork

This work by Eva Armisen depicts a girl in a beautiful red dress, walking across the floor and smiling sweetly. The vivid red of the girl’s dress instantly captures the viewer’s attention, while the thick brushstrokes Armisen uses to paint it creates a sense of movement, as well as a fascinating texture in which the viewer is almost able to feel the quality of the dress. This sense of movement is reinforced by the curved lines of the girl’s hair and dress, which blow upwards as she moves across the space, as well as the numerous thin lines of the wooden floorboards. While the work has a limited colour palette, through her signature child-like style Armisen skillfully creates a charming and spirited work, which encapsulates the excitement and joy of dressing up and heading for a night out.
