About the artwork

This mixed media work by Auguste features a myriad of pop culture icons, including characters from the Dragon Ball franchise, and the iconic logos of Rolls Royce and Coca Cola. Meanwhile, a cutout silhouette of Dragon Ball Z character Goku from the work is placed beside it. The multi-coloured splotches of paint that cover the work generate a sense of vibrancy and edginess, that adds variation and rhythm to the piece. The placement of luxury icons such as Rolls Royce and Lamborghini with emblems of childhood like manga characters and Chupa Chups lollipops creates a synthesised vision of nostalgia, childhood and luxury. This concept, like much of Auguste’s oeuvre, is open to interpretation, leaving the viewer with further thoughts to ponder.
