About the artwork
This piece is centred around the mother on the sail. As she reaches out with open arms, she grasps onto a bright red heart and offers it to the world around her. Around her, the dark seas are illuminated by the floating bright hearts that have been given by the mother. Looking on proudly at her, her child and husband looks proudly as she presents her love to the world. Behind her, an orchestra plays a symphony on the violin to create a romantic and sentimental mood. Through her love, she steers and guides the sail forth into the vast horizon ahead. The sail - a tree embellished with multicoloured flowers, looms over the family to create a vibrant shelter for the family as they sail off into the unknown. Portraying a selflessness and overwhelming amount of love present, Coplu gives ode to the loving nature of motherhood.
About the artist
Born in the Turkish town of Ushak, Coplu brought into the art world his distinctive style of cartoons, filled with warm and sentimental characters that range from silly to profound. Highly recognized and exhibited, the artist has won many competitions and accolades for his artworks and has been published in various media in Turkey, South East Asia and across Europe. He has also established an Open Air Cartoon Exhibition Space and the Cartoon School of Antalya. Part of many prestigious collections, the artist has been exhibited the world over, including France, Italy, the US, Germany and Spain.
