Your Destiny is my Destiny, 2017
Acrylic on Canvas, 76 x 76 cm
About the artwork
In "Your Destiny is my Destiny", Coplu makes a humour-filled critique of society, our addiction to smartphones, and how it has affected parent-child dynamics. A young child sits in his mother's purse, using her smartphone, copying her habits. It shows how children begin to replicate the actions of those they see around them, especially those of their parents. Although the work is a critique, it has been painted with love, as Coplu presents his signature surrealist landscape and colourful palette to inject a sense of warmth into the image, inviting the viewer to laugh along with him.
