About the artwork
Adi Gunawan's "Yoga Series - Navasana" presents a captivating and endearing portrayal of the human form in an unexpected context. This bronze sculpture depicts a plump, childlike figure gracefully adopting the "boat pose" (Navasana) from yoga. The artist's distinctive style smooths out anatomical details, emphasizing the rounded, fluid contours of the body, which evokes a sense of innocent vulnerability and profound inner peace. The textured, almost pebbled surface of the head contrasts beautifully with the polished, reflective quality of the body, drawing attention to the figure's focused internal state. Gunawan's intention with his "Yoga Series" is to explore the journey of self-discovery and the harmonious balance achievable through practice, using these endearing figures to suggest that tranquility and strength can be found within us from the earliest stages of life.
