About the artwork
Adi Gunawan's "Yoga Series - Natarajasana (Dance Pose)" is a compelling bronze sculpture that masterfully challenges conventional body norms through its unique, voluptuous form. As a prominent Indonesian sculptor, Gunawan frequently explores themes of cultural identity and the nuanced relationship between humans and their environment, often drawing inspiration from farm folk. This piece, while depicting a classic yoga posture, reimagines the human figure with a powerful, almost abstract sensuality. The smooth, lustrous bronze highlights the figure's dynamic contortion, inviting viewers to contemplate balance, introspection, and the beauty found beyond idealized physical standards. Gunawan's work consistently prompts dialogue about societal perceptions and the profound stories embedded within the human form.
