About the artwork
Depicting Ustrasana, the Camel Pose, this bronze piece showcases a figure arching backward in a gesture of profound openness and vulnerability. The sculpture's signature rounded contours, characteristic of Adi Gunawan's distinctive style, not only emphasize the emotional depth of the pose but also subtly challenge conventional body aesthetics, celebrating form in its most uninhibited state. This work powerfully highlights themes of trust and surrender, both to oneself and to the present moment. Gunawan's artistry here invites contemplation on the courage it takes to open oneself fully, both physically and emotionally. The figure's posture, a complete backbend, symbolizes release and a willingness to embrace new perspectives. The smooth, lustrous bronze finish enhances the sculpture's meditative quality, allowing viewers to reflect on personal growth and the strength found in vulnerability. "Yoga Series – Ustrasana (Camel Pose)" is a compelling testament to the transformative power of introspection and self-discovery through art.
