About the artwork
Adi Gunawan's "Yoga Series – Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)" is a compelling bronze sculpture that masterfully interprets one of yoga's most powerful inversions. The artwork presents a figure in a shoulder stand, its rounded, fluid forms elegantly stacked to defy gravity, a signature of Gunawan's artistic language that celebrates the body in all its diverse shapes. The smooth, lustrous bronze highlights the serene balance achieved, while the textured head adds a subtle contrast, drawing attention to the mental focus required for such a pose. This piece transcends a mere physical depiction, symbolizing the transformative power of shifting one's perspective. It invites viewers to contemplate introspection, stability, and the strength found in challenging conventions. Gunawan skillfully conveys a sense of quiet concentration and inner peace, reinforcing his exploration of self-acceptance and the profound harmony between mind and body, making "Sarvangasana" a poignant meditation on personal equilibrium and enduring resilience.
