About the artwork

"Ocean Eyes" by Suardana Kacor (Acrylic on canvas, 80 x 80 cm, 2024) is a stunning, close-up perspective of a thriving coral reef. The square canvas is filled with bold, textured forms of various corals in vibrant greens, oranges, purples, and reds, each meticulously rendered to highlight its unique pattern and depth. A graceful sea turtle glides through the lower part of the composition, while a lively assortment of tropical fish, including parrotfish and clownfish, adds splashes of complementary color. The background features a subtle, intricate pattern, adding another layer of visual interest. This artwork celebrates the intricate beauty and boundless energy of the underwater world, seen through Kacor’s distinctly detailed and richly textured lens.

About the artist

I Kadek Suardana, known as “Kacor,” was born in Gianyar, Bali, in 1991. A graduate of the Indonesian Institute of Art in Yogyakarta, he chose Sewon, Yogyakarta, as his home and creative hub, where he continually immerses himself in the region’s vibrant artistic scene. Deeply inspired by nature, Suardana finds his muse in landscapes brimming with diverse plants and animals, translating the beauty of flora and fauna into his art. His innovative approach incorporates a unique cut-out technique that brings a dynamic, layered quality to his compositions. Using a tensile method, he skillfully introduces depth and texture, creating immersive, textured worlds that feel both tactile and surreal.
