Treasure Trove Afloat , 2024
Ink on Rice Paper, 95 x 100 cm
About the artwork
A rare palette of terracotta and soft pink infuses the scene with warmth and nostalgia. These hues extend beyond the charming shophouses, cascading across the skies and shimmering on the waters of the river. This unified color scheme creates a harmonious environment that beautifully reflects the vibrancy of Singapore’s rich heritage. Amidst the bleached skies above, the bumboats float gracefully on the tranquil surface of the river, embodying symbols of resilience and continuity in Singapore’s evolving narrative. Their presence evokes memories of a bustling past, where these vessels were vital to trade and daily life along the riverbanks.
