About the artwork
In this captivating painting of a Singapore river scene, the tranquil sage green background establishes a soothing ambiance that beautifully contrasts with the vibrant details of the bumboats. Each bumboat, topped with a cheerful baby blue canopy, glides gracefully across the water, evoking a sense of serenity and nostalgia. The gentle ripples in the river reflect a soft colour palette that harmonises with the sage green, symbolising the lushness of the surrounding environment. The composition masterfully captures the essence of daily life along the river, hinting at the bustling energy just beyond the edges of the canvas. Sunlight filters through the scene, casting a warm glow on the boats. This interplay of light not only enhances their colours but also beautifully illustrates the delicate balance between man-made structures and the natural world. The painting celebrates Singapore’s rich cultural heritage while showcasing the enchanting beauty of its waterways.
