About the artwork
In this peice, Lee Kuan Yew and his wife Kwa Geok Choo are painted on the same canvas. As the viewer walks past, the faces would morph into one another, before the distict portriats comes into view. In the eulogy for his wife, he said "Without her, I would be a different man, with a different life". Where ever Lee Kuan Yew went, Mrs Lee went with him and they were inseparable till the very end. This painting is a homage to the deep love between both of them, showing that Mr and Mrs Lee are indeed 2 sides of the same coin.
About the artist
Sergi Cadenas is a self-taught Spanish artist who began painting at the age of 30. Known for his innovative lenticular-style technique, he constructs large-scale canvases with vertical ridges, painting distinct portraits on either side. As viewers move around the work, one image seamlessly transforms into the other—an optical illusion that demands extraordinary precision and patience. Cadenas is currently dedicated to creating large-format portraits that explore identity, perception, and transformation. His works are held in international private collections and are also part of the Porrentruy Optical Art Museum (POPA) in Switzerland.
