About the artwork
From an aerial view, we see wooden bumboats gracefully docked along the shore, each one telling its own story. Lim’s choice of color is particularly striking; the reflections on the water dance with life, adding a layer of depth that pulls us in. It’s as if we can almost hear the laughter, the chatter, and the sounds of the city mingling with the gentle lapping of the water. This painting invites us not just to observe but to feel—to immerse ourselves in the lively heartbeat of Singapore's cultural and commercial heart. In its beauty, it reminds us of the stories, traditions, and connections that make this place truly special.
