Fish Pond, 2016

Ink on Paper
117 x 102cm

The natural environment and native’s way of life is the the core focus of Yu’s works. With his own particular style of pointillism drawing, Yu regards his subjects with a new spirit, one that is distinctively crafted. In his work Fish Pond, Yu records a scene in Sarawak’s rural settlements, as women carry on with their daily routines. Fine details of the environment are immaculately captured, exuding the vibrant yet tranquil quality of nature. The work shows a peaceful balance between man’s culture and nature, a sacred harmony that only exist in the simple naturalistic lifestyles away from complex and rigorous urban reign.
