About the artwork

Indonesian artist Tjokorda Bagus Wirtamaja creates artworks that stem from intense emotion and fearless colour exploration. In his pieces, shapes are forms that have their own intriguing individuality, and are expressed through texture, lines and colours. Numerous bulls are depicted charging at full speed towards the viewers, with their fixed gaze captivating us and drawing us into the work with mesmerising intensity. Through his abstract rendition the artist explores the dynamics of nature, in which the animals appear transcendental in form, reflecting the elusive nature of animals to humans.

About the artist

Tjokorda Bagus Wiratmaja was born in 1984 in Gianyar, Bali and enrolled in SMK N1 High School Sukawati with a specialization in Art, going on to graduate from The Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) in Yogyakarta with a Masters in Fine Arts. Tjokorda creates artworks stemming from intense emotion and fearless color exploration, with layered and textured canvases that sometimes use elements such as sand and pigment powder to achieve their finishing.
