About the artwork

The humble Cavallo or 'Horse', has grown to become one of the largest signature symbols of Fernando Botero's work. A common interpretation of the work is connection to Botero's father, whose occupation was a salesman on horse back, and who passed away in the artist's younger years. However, the horse has grown to become a symbol of Botero's distinctive art form, encapsulating all it stands for. Rounded from convention, distinctive in spite of the common place and tied to Columbian history and heritage- Botero's Cavallo has reached monumental heights, and is found in the most prestigious private and public collections in South America and around the globe.

About the artist
