About the artwork
Lee Jung Woong’s works are instilled with a force and motion that refute the flatness of the canvas. The striking impact of a brush stroke is visible, as it leaves its distinct mark on the delicate Korean paper. In this image, the concentric darkness of ink is realistically portrayed, positioning the brush as the creator through its placement in the center of the blotted field. One can almost reach out to touch the gleaming wooden handle of the brush, and the thin streaks black ink guide the viewer’s eyes across the canvas, conveying a clear sense of movement. Emotion is palpable through the balance between energy and constraint. The brush hovers over the paper, as if poised for future motion.
