About the artwork

Ang Ah Tee’s use of precise detail and constructed texture turn a nondescript alleyway in Chinatown into poetic homage to the disappearance of tradition with forthcoming modernity. Though simple in concept, the image is rendered complex with the shifting interactions of light and shadow. The representational capture exudes the atmosphere of humble contentment and homeliness that pervades the area.
