About the artwork

Standing tall with his head bowed and fists clenched, this majestic, life-sized figure embodies strength and solemnity as he takes a dignified step forward. Composed of copper plates, the rectangular grid pattern lining his entire bare torso appears to be reminiscent of his absent armour. Using servants and warriors as his models, Cai Zhi Song renders these figures with grace and righteousness and creates a perceptible tension that captures the viewer’s imagination.
