About the artwork
Another ode to the sights of Singapore's chinatown, this monochromatic piece grants us a birds-eye view through a tribute to a memory of old Singapore. This palette only allows for Lim Tze Peng's brushwork to take precedence to the bustling activity occurring on the ground below. His careful balance of space is also complemented with the colour scheme, with detailed strokes documenting the landscape and its architectural features. With the rapid advancement into an era of technology and modernity, the landscapes of Singaporean communities have undergone massive change. Many times, this change occurs without much time to look back at our culture, to preserve, to reminisce. Lim Tze Peng's dynamic style is a sentimental call to a Singapore that has long gone, but remains conserved in its own unique way for us to look back upon fondly.
