About the artwork
Chansrinual contrasts the magnitude of Mother Nature with the diminutive man through this landscape work, in which a terrain of colossal mountains are depicted. The artist uses his distinctive technique of applying melted solid acrylic to the canvas, which creates a unique three-dimensional texture. The work has a predominantly monochromatic colour palette, which conveys a palpable sense of stillness and serenity to the viewer. Chansrinual’s lone red figure in the massive rolling landscape is the only human form visible, and draws the viewer’s eye through the stark visual contrast, that is reinforced by the variation in scale. The artist makes a nuanced statement of humans’ eventual insignificance in the face of nature’s magnitude, reminding us that man will always be humbled by nature and thus we should not seek to dominate her.
