About the artwork

KU - Ronnie Ford's paintings often features a highly textured surface and use of contrasting colours, which capture the landscape in a personal and unconventional way, simultaneously pulling at heartstrings and stimulating the brain. In this painting bright shades of yellow contrast with the purple of the lavender fields, while extend as far as the eye can see, while in the background the deep blue of the ocean invites and tantalises the viewer. The composition draws attention to the house in the middle of the work, an impression from Ford's childhood when he would climb to the top of the trees to reign over the forest and catch the glimpse of a distant house. Ronnie Ford encourages the viewer to enter a state of contemplation with this work, taking them on a journey to distant lands enabling them to flee from the cacophony of everyday life into the calm, vast, meditative spaces of the natural world.
