About the artwork

A Poetic Madness that employs an Artistic claim into an Artwork which is a redefinition of Modernism icons with the use of hyper realistic technique that succeeds to comprehend a post modern concept into its content. This Artwork particularly explains the profound knowledge of the Artist around the levels of Contemporary Art as history, background and aesthetics, while at the same time enriches the audience with harmony and visual balance.

About the artist

Eric Chan (born 28 March 1975 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is one of Southeast Asia's notable contemporary painters. He is currently based in Singapore. A Masters of Fine Art (Painting) graduate of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia and Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore, Chan has carved out a reputation for reinvigorating interest in painting as a resonant contemporary media. His paintings are shaped by photographic and camera effects and aesthetics — from the blurring or smearing of paintings, to the distinctive graphics of film negatives with tonal inversions. He has actively exhibited in Singapore and overseas including UK, Hong Kong, UAE, Australia, Malaysia, Phillipines and Indonesia. In addition, he has also enjoyed recognition for his work receiving amongst others, the Jurors' Choice at the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards (2002) and the Highly Commended accolade at the 2003 UOB Painting of the Year Competition. His works are collected by the Singapore Art Museum and in corporate and public collections such as the CapitaLand Collection, UOB Art Collection, UBS Art Collection, OCBC Art Collection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore.
