About the artwork
In her series of sketches, Xie Ai Ge expresses her admiration for the indomitable inner strength of the human soul. This etching is no different as atop a ‘bed’ of leaves in between tree branches, a figure lies in complete relaxation with both arms folded behind their head. This gesture of tranquility is Xie’s means of signifying the comfort and rest found in the achievement of actualization. Moreover, by creating imagery that draws the viewer’s eye upwards, Xie Ai Ge creates a space for the viewer to meditate on the magnificence of divinity, spirituality and the freedom of being.
