About the artwork
In this painting which depicts a puppy surrounded by colourful flowers, Romero Britto incorporates the Cubist emphasis on two-dimensionality and the flat picture plane, while simultaneously demonstrating the explosive and communicative nature of colour. This creates a stimulating visual experience for viewers. Britto’s use of warm colours such as the bright yellow background creates an uplifting quality, furthered by his incorporation of intersecting dynamic patterns. In Romero Britto’s world, happiness is a warm canvas, brimming with colour and odes to happiness, love and optimism, and he skilfully emphases the joy of spring in this charming work.
