About the artwork
Born in 1992, Fonne is a Thai artist who seeks to carve a new aesthetic with her striking paintings. While today’s world of photoshop and social media filters have produced an unnatural, even sterile, portrayal of femininity, she use of colors and texture to destroy this pretence, instead creating a new image that illustrates nuanced layers of beauty, personality and individuality that are apparent at first glance. Having developed a fascination with colours from a young age, she honed her technical skills at the Faculty of Fine Arts in King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. When creating pieces, Fonne attempts to go beyond first appearances; rather than simply making an aesthetically pleasing work, her pieces aim to challenge the viewer’s critical awareness by revealing the true person underneath the facade, thus encouraging them to see things differently and interpret information in new ways. Her signature technique involves the overlapping of colours and imagery; Through overlapping shades of colours and shapes, she creates a unique texture that lets conveys the different facets of her subject’s personality and individual identity, while also symbolising the layers that hide them from the world. While real people inspire her work, the end result is a blend of reality and creative interpretation, with each piece utilising a completely unique colour set that captivates viewers of all ages.
