About the artwork

David Bromley uses color and figurative expressionism with sentimentality and the symbolism of Pop Art to hint at the gregarious and effervescent nature of children. The bold brushstrokes, the blue undertones, and the distinct plumpness of the children are reminiscent of classic 1950s storybook covers that are as nostalgic as the stories themselves. In this painting, two imaginary helpers coming straight out of the boy's imagination are squeezing paint out of tubes for the background, setting the colors of his mindset, offering the tones of his imagination.
