Li Ji Kai aims to address the rising social issues in China borne from the one-child policy administrated nationally. His sculptures and paintings depict young boys from the post-revolution generation being well clad, to illustrate how affluent Chinese parents shower their only child with all the luxuries, developing a mindset in the new generation that this is their birth right. Li hopes to awaken the new generation by presenting an image of them being sluggish and indifferent to the environment around them as opposed to being dynamic and well informed. He hopes to bring back the enthusiasm seen in the previous generation to make positive changes in the community they are living in - moving them away from mindless consumerism, technology, and individualism to see the broader picture.
