About the artwork

With elegancy and fluidity, Lim Tze Peng inscribes the phrase 千山万水 Qian Shan Wan Shui , which translates to numerous mountains and streams. As an artist who continues to expand his creative outlook in his 90s, Lim experiments with a new colour and medium, gold and acrylic respectively. The magnificent gold gleaming in the background gives a touch of grandeur and audacity. On the other hand, the acrylic produces a unique and varied texture never before seen in his previous works and one can observe Lim’s contemporary approach with his merger of the West and Easy. Amazingly, the characters are not overwhelmed in the shimmering setting, for the negative spaces cleverly contour the lines and give a pop-up effect to the characters.
