About the artwork
In this divergent series of works, Ren portrays multiple characters, unrestricted from the traditional formality of classical portraiture. The people depicted in this series are mainly unknown figures going through their everyday lives, the nameless people that we encounter daily. The title ‘你相信但你得不到’, translates to ‘you believe, but you are unable to do it’ in English, encouraging us to reflect on our own lives. Ren’s use of intriguing textures and vibrant colours creates a dazzling visual spectacle, conveying an uplifting mood to the viewer, and encouraging us to recognise and embrace the excitement and joy that can be found in life and its adventures.
