About the artwork

This sketch features Xie Ai Ge's Tree series which focuses on the harmony between nature and man, and the happiness that lies in everyday life, heavily inspired by her own childhood growing up in the mountains of China. In this sketch, a man sits contentedly on a bent tree trunk with a bird perching onto his index finger, which suggests that he has achieved and fulfilled his journey to transcendent self-actualization. Through the symbol of the bird, which symbolized freedom for the artist, this sketch encourages the viewer to take the time to enjoy the peace and calm of nature.
