About the artwork

Romero Britto, known as the most licensed artist in history, is a Brazilian Neo-Pop artist who combines elements of cubism and pop art in his instantly recognisable artworks. In this painting, Britto depicts Singapore’s late Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and demonstrates his superior command over perspective and aesthetic coalescence. Britto creates a spirited portrait, by combining warm and cool-toned primary colours which stand out against the white elements, as well as differing patterns which are visually stimulating. Through this nuanced work, Britto creates what is truly a befitting tribute to the unforgettable personality and legacy one of the most dynamic figures in Asian history.

About the artist

Romero Britto (born 6 October 1963) is a Brazilian Neo-pop artist, painter, serigrapher and sculptor. He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his work. Britto has lived in Miami, Florida since 1989. Shortly after Britto arrived in the United States, Michel Roux, founder of Absolut Vodka's Absolut Art Ad Campaign, happened to visit Britto's first studio in Coconut Grove, Florida. Roux quickly asked Britto to reinterpret the famous bottle, which would be published and seen by millions. Consistently challenging himself, Britto has completed other corporate works for Movado, Disney, Enrico Coveri, Pepsi, the United Nations, BMW and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
