About the artwork

"Peaceful Settlement" shows a group of bo-men (Daisy Boman’s characteristic figures) helping each other to find the right equilibrium point at the pinnacle of a curve and peak - a symbolic mountain. This is done in order to reach a state where all influences and opposing forces cancel each other out, resulting in a stable and balanced system. Their struggle reflects the difficulty of finding balance within ourselves and, on a more macro scale, balance between opposing and contradictory forces that are present in our society. With the bo-men holding on to each other and diverting their weight in the direction they deem best, it demonstrates how we need to help each other to attain peace and balance as well.

About the artist

Having grown up in the Flemish part of Belgium near Antwerp, Daisy Boman’s childhood interest in art eventually led her to enter the Academy of Fine Art, where she studied interior design and photography. She then proceeded to experiment with ceramics, leading to innovative artistic possibilities. Boman created her 'bo-men', as unique figures that climb, interact with each other, fall, crawl and run. Alone, but mostly in numbers, they tell stories about life, human destiny and universal feelings. Having exhibited in Belgium, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, Boman’s works are part of private and public collections within the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and in the United States.
