CSS _ 59 / KU SG ( due 31st oct 2014) - Sakyamuni is one of the names of Gautama Buddha or simply the Buddha, who was a sage on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Born in the Shakya republic in the Himalayan foothills, Gautama Buddha taught primarily in northeastern India. Buddha means, "awakened one" or "the enlightened one." In most Buddhist traditions, Gautama is regarded as the Supreme Buddha of our age. In his own variation of tribute and devotion, Li Chen transforms conventional images by merging Buddha and Bodhisattva into one, creating a rounded image seemingly holding an arms bowl. The contemporary depiction is minimalistic and altered, using contemporary image to reveal a palpable air of serenity and reverence held in the Buddha’s closed eyes, enlightened expression and humbly clasped hands.
