About the artwork

In a riotous explosion of ink and color, Lim Tze Peng abandons the elegant clarity of singular representational lines to bring forth methodical madness with manipulation of positive and negative space. Demonstrating mastery over his medium, the artist makes use of dashes and sweeping strokes that flow with ease to form an image of traditional boats laying their anchors at the docks. Interspersing dark ink with colors, the artist is able to capture both water and reflection, enhancing the composition with complex details, minimal colors and seemingly imperfect strokes. The overall image is not only nostalgic in terms of form and color, but astounding in representational detailing.
