Lim Tze Peng writes the last two lines from Tang poem 柳宗元 or River Snow by Liu Zongyuan (773-819) who was a mid-Tang politician. The entire poem reads: 千山鸟飞绝, 万径人踪灭. 孤舟蓑笠翁, 独钓寒江雪. It translates to: A thousand hills, but no birds in flight. Ten thousand paths, with no tracks of people in sight. A lone man in a cape and hat of bamboo, fishes in a solitary skiff on a snowy river.
